These are the links I have managed to organize so far. I have only added sites that I liked or found useful.
Image Collections
One can often find in the internet collections of images, that were themselves collected from other places; some of the collections and the images are quite old.
- Zazzle.com is a great resource for those who want hard copies of images, either on a t-shirt (or sweatshirt) or on a poster at very low prices. They have managed to collect many artists, some with impressive works. If you want to check my (few so far) contributions, this is the link for my shirts and posters designs.

deviantART
is a site, where artists show off their work. The quality varies (but mostly high), also the image sizes. You can use their images on your desktop. You can also buy prints of someof the images. Also some image resources are offered free.
You don't have to be a member to browse.
If you like, you can also check my own contributions. They are all large size suitable for wallpaper, and most of them will not be at my site here. -
Renderosity
is a site, where 3D artists show off their work to their peers. The quality varies (but mostly high), also the image sizes. You can use their images on your desktop. For other uses, you must contact the individual artists. Also some image resources are offered free.
If you like, you can also check my own images. They are all large size suitable for wallpaper, and most of them will not be at my site here. - Oyonale Image mixer takes images from Gilles Tran's wonderful gallery (which you should not miss, by the way) and makes abstract wallpapers.
- The Empire That Was Russia - a Library of congress exhibition. At this site you can see color photos of Russia of around 1910. Only there were no color photos then. The photographer had taken (with a self-made camera) 3 black and white filtered photos, one for each color and the photos were "colorized" digitally in our days. While there, you can also check the other Library of Congress exhibits, especially the The Floating World of Ukiyo-e with Japanese art.
- Speaking of historical art, if you haven't already visited it, you should not miss the Web Museum with large resolution images of the most famous artwork of the world, detailed information and more.
- The Alphabet Synthesis Machine (broken link) is a fun site, where you can freely make your personal true type font, so long as you don't expect the letters to look like any known language :-)
- Flaming Text : A site where you can freely make your web page graphics, banners, bullets, letters, backgrounds (some of my images are used with my permission). It is all done with scripts. Great resource!
- butterflies of Japan is a site that offers just that (although most of the butterflies occur in most of the world). The photos are big (up to 800X600) and beautiful and the collection is comprehensive.
- quillame's page has great photos of animals, Antarctica, mountain climbing etc.
- Digitalblasphemy Great images. Large size, original art, rather surrealistic.
- Mediabuilder A collection of interesting backgrounds and clipart; has some nice utilities, like 3D text maker, postcard maker etc. Most of the ontent is commercial.
- The screensaver download pages. Has links to more screensavers than you will ever need.
- Desktop Publishing Many graphics and links to others, articles, and templates. I have bookmarked this page.
- Gilmer Wood Company Wood Samples. These are images of woods, intended for those who want to buy, but they are lovely and so many!
- Mike Bonnell's wallpaper. Beautiful surreal and abstract wallpapers - and a lot of them.
- Barry's clip art links. A good source for graphics, especially specialised ones like animals, medical, aviation etc. The main page links are to other sites; from the menu - clipart - you can see their images.
- Web Page Background is a new site with nice images and a very easy classification system; they also use some of my older images with my permission (although they have removed the link to my site).
- Ozark mountain images - Very nice scenery and flower wallpapers (up to 1024 X 768) and screensavers. And an interesting introduction.
- Gianpaolo's photo Gallery with pretty photos for wallpapers (up to 1024 X 768) from Italy, landscapes, flowers, cats, dogs...
- The Graphic Ring is the place to find great images.
